Dr. Vanesa Bijol joined Arkana in 2023, with nearly two decades of experience in clinical renal pathology practice. She was mentored by Dr. Helmut Rennke at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School where after her fellowship she maintained a faculty position until 2017 when she joined Northwell Health in New York as a Chief of Renal Pathology Service. Dr. Bijol has a heart for medical education outreach and from 2012 – 2022 she directed the Clinical Nephropathology Certificate Program of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN).
In this role she has served on multiple missions as an Educational Ambassador of the ISN, visiting Nigeria, Rwanda, Nepal, Georgia, and Romania to help advance the practice of renal pathology in these countries. She routinely engages in educational opportunities in kidney pathology teaching in person and online at all levels, from medical school to peer education. She is currently a director of the GlomCon Kidney Pathology Certificate Program and is a course director for the GlomCon Glomerular Disease Fellowship.
